Book your holiday to Jordan with Wendy Wu Tours
Jordan Holidays are synonymous with the spectacular UNESCO-listed ancient city of Petra but this proudly welcoming land is home to so much more.
Exploring here is to follow in the footsteps of legendary adventurers like T.E Lawrence; you can discover the romance of the red-hued Wadi Rum, float in the waters of the Dead Sea, explore the cosmopolitan streets of capital Amman and, of course, wander through Petra, the long ago home of the Nabataean people, an exquisite city hewn into valleys of pink-hued rocks.
The Rose Red City of Petra has been named one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’ and its iconic buildings are famous the world over. Your first glimpse of the Treasury as you emerge from the twisting path of the Siq will stay with you for ever. Jordan’s ancient treasures are not just confined to the Rose City though, Crossed back and forth by traders, invaders and camel caravans for thousands of years, the country boasts an astonishing richness of ancient treasures, from crusader castles and Roman amphitheatres to exquisite Christian mosaics.
This barren wilderness of Wadi Rum is so rugged that it almost resembles the surface of the moon and is often shown in space movies to depict an undeveloped planet, take the opportunity to enjoy a vivid view of our Milky Way. Staying overnight in one of the Bedouin Camps is a great way to reap the benefits of staying in the desert.
The delights of Amman, the capital of Jordan, are sometimes overlooked in the rush to get out exploring but it is the perfect place to dive into the local culture. Don’t miss the ancient ruins of the Citadel, sitting high on a hilltop with wonderful panoramic views of the city.
Mansaf is considered the national dish of Jordan, it is a dish that runs deep in Jordanian culture and has even been known to resolve conflicts between tribes. Another unique glory that I would recommend trying if you are spending time in Jordan, specifically in Amman, is Knafeh, a sweet treat with a layer of crisp filo pastry sitting gloriously above a layer of Akkawi cheese and covered with a sugar syrup. Delicious!
Jordan has a true tradition of welcoming guests, from Nabatean tradesman to zealous Crusaders, hospitality is ingrained in Jordanian culture. From the moment you arrive you will be charmed by the generous nature and fascinating storytelling and the Jordanian people are the true highlight to any holiday to Jordan.
